Jumpstart to Good Health

Chesterfield County will expand on its current health care prevention programs to strategically implement a community-based program that curbs childhood obesity for children age 3 to 5 in Chesterfield County with the Chesterfield County Coordinating Council’s Health Subcommittee. 

By working through partnerships among Chesterfield County First Steps, the Chesterfield Family YMCA, the SC DHEC Region 4 Health Education Division, Coordinating Council and CareSouth Carolina to provide a comprehensive, evidenced-based prevention program that specifically targets these children, their families, their childcare environments and the community culture in which these families live.   

Specifically, the program will provide prevention services that will 1) impact the risk factors and health status indicators in individual children; 2) improve the nutrition and physical activity environment at four selected day care centers; 3) generate incentives and support for sustainable, healthy lifestyle changes by families, and 4) create and implement a community-wide prevention campaign that focuses on the importance of a healthier lifestyle for children in Chesterfield County.

Chesterfield County First Steps is subcontracted by Chesterfield County Coordinating Council to coordinate this project funded by the Prevention Partnership Grant from SCDHHS.
